Sanctuary (2021) captures a quiet shoreline home in the stillness of blue hour. Taken along the coast of the Pacific Northwest, the image reflects a recurring theme in my work—comfort glimpsed from a distance. A single lamp glows behind a window, echoing warmth and solitude against the vastness beyond. This piece also served as the front cover of my first monograph, also titled Sanctuary.
This piece was photographed over the course of 3 months with multiple iterations at different perspectives and times of day. Being a place that offered immense comfort during my late teens and into the depths of COVID, this is an incredibly personal piece for me.
